When the iPhone launched, it was clear that gaming would be a priority on the device. With a huge touchscreen and tons of support from many game developers, it was only a matter of time before games would explode.

The biggest explosion of gaming on the iPhone is clearly the Angry Birds franchise. Angry Birds is a game that is perfect for five minute breaks or train rides where you only have a few minutes. Combining fun game play with a cute story has lead this franchise to make more money than most modern console games. You shoot birds at pigs. Angry birds to be more specific. Different birds have different powers and you have to utilize them to destroy the fortresses of the evil pigs. This game has been ported to more platforms than any game ever.

Doodle Jump is another game that has sold well over a million copies. The game uses the phones accelerometer to control the Doodle as you climb a series of towers. You rotate the phone to the right to go to the right and rotate the phone to the left to go to the left. This game has been talked about on popular television shows and is becoming a huge franchise thanks to new Doodle games.

A huge market for iPhone games is recreating older games on the platform. Tetris clones to Asteroid clones. Many classic games have been updated with iPhone controls and new crisp graphics.

First person shooter games are even represented on the iPhone with unique control schemes. Perhaps the most famous of these games is Eliminate Pro. You can play online deathmatch with other players around the world all from your phone. If anyone had predicted this would be possible, they never spoke up!

Minigore is an example of an iPhone game that become a classic almot instantly. Cute characters? Check. Uzis? Check. Lots and lots of animated blood? This game become a stress outlet for millions of frustrated college students and gamers looking for a way to kill time. Controlling the game was unique for the iPhone because your left hand controlled the character and your right hand was able to aim the gun. Dual analogue without any sticks at all.

The iPhone has become a gamers haven, complete with every genre you could possibly want to experience. From shooters to puzzle games, from casual click games, to old classics, the iPhone is a great place to be.
